Matilda
Melbourne International Millinery Competition 2020
'Australian Renewal, blooms after black'.
This piece was inspired by the resilience of Australia's flora after bushfires. 2019 - 20 saw Australia's most catastrophic fire season on record.
Newly named 'Matilda', is a burst of life, with colour and joy.
Created with silk, this mass of flowers and foliage have been hand-crafted. The process of silk flower making involves serval seps from cutting the shapes, dying the colours and tooling the shapes.
The beautiful bouquet adorns a coral-coloured wide headband crafted from hand-dyed sinamay. Not to forget the wild ribbon which extends into the air, giving this piece a sense of freedom and lightness.
This millinery truly is a wearable piece for art.
Secured with small combs around the headband.
All visible attachments will be customized to meet individual requirements.
Made from,
Sinamay, silk and wire.
